Celebrate Life Below Water. Eat Blue

How satellites alert us to harmful algal blooms in our oceans

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration partnered with the Marine Institute and NUI Galway in an international effort to determine the effectiveness of satellite technology for tracking algal blooms. The technology has been used to detect and monitor the species growth to determine their effect on marine wildlife. Algal bloom can sometimes deplete oxygen and cause other related food chain disruptions and mortalities making them a priority for research and technology.
