Marine Biologists Develop Heat-Resistant Coral to Save Great Barrier Reef

Several groups of marine scientists out of Australian institutions have developed a coral that can tolerate extreme temperatures and withstand bleaching. These corals are critical for mass bleaching prone areas like the Great Barrier Reef. The scientists have found a way to manipulate the microalgae properties in order to strengthen the algae cells located inside the coral tissue, or the microalgal symbiont. This technology is “bound to save thousands of coral reefs.”
